Outreach
Outreach
Educational lesson plan inspired by scientific research:
Through the SciREN organization, we created a classroom lesson plan for local educators to help students learn about our sensory biology. We've participated in both SciREN Coast and Triangle outreach events throughout the years and disseminated this work to hundreds of educators across the state of North Carolina (and beyond).
Here's a folder with our compiled lesson plan and activity materials, and a short introduction video for students.
I've led various workshops for high school and undergraduate students on the following topics:
Science communication
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program information
CV and resume building
How to choose a major

Resources
Resources I've come across and want to remember (from grad school support to community and visibility in STEM). Sharing in case they're helpful to you too:
Fail-Safe Science is a video repository of scientists discussing challenges they experienced in graduate school, how they overcame them, and advice for the current generation of grads.
International Science Postgraduate Mental Health Alliance (ISPMHA)
ISPMHA is free to join and open to any graduate student or postdoctoral scholar interested in promoting mental health in the sciences.
500 Queer Scientists is a visibility campaign for LGBTQ+ people and their allies working in STEM and STEM-supporting jobs.
Native Land Digital's mission is to uplift Indigenous ways of knowing, and build understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
